Consistency is the main technique to employ when knife throwing. That is, adopting the same stance, grip, throw and follow through. Without them you will never achieve any measure of success. For the purpose of this section we will assume that you will be throwing a 12″ knife ( We use the word knife but this is a misnomer. None of our ” knives ” have blades on them ) This length of knife is quite important for safety purposes. With a smaller knife the rotation will be smaller and you will have to stand nearer the target to make it stick as you first begin throwing. This can be dangerous as bounce backs do sometimes occur.

For safetys sake, when first attempting to throw, use the handle throw first ( one spin of the knife ). This will ensure that you are about 4 metres away from the target. As you become competent with the one spin, and can make a stick virtually every time, then you have the confidence to move up to a half spin using the tip of the knife ( from about 8′ ) 1 1/2 spin, 2 spins etc. etc. are just extensions of your basic 1 and 1/2 spins. I think, in the UK, you will find it very difficult to order any knives of 12″ or more. If you have any problems in that area please comment below and we will try to find you some. No two people have the same style when throwing. This also applies to a critical area of distance from the target. Try all the grips, stances etc. in these pages and you will find your consistency.
